Abstract
Abstract A least-squares variational formulation for first-order systems is extended to a class of nonlinear problems. A finite element analysis and associated preconditioners for iterative solution are developed. The preconditioned system is not sensitive to problem (mesh) size as is demonstrated in numerical comparison studies.
