Abstract

KTP (KTiOPO4) is a new class of nonlinear optical crystal which has been recently developed. The crystal exhibits several unique and interesting properties including a high nonlinear coefficient (comparable with that of Ba2NaNb5O15), a high damage threshold, and a low degree of sensitivity to the thermally induced phase-mismatch. In the present work, we describe the recent development in the growth of optical quality crystals and a study of nonlinear phase-matching properties of KTP at 1.06 µm. The nonlinear optical figure of merits of KTP will be compared with several other nonlinear crystals such as CDA, KDP, LilO3, and LiNbO3. its applications for other nonlinear optical devices will be discussed.
