Abstract

The fiber loop mirror constructed from low-birefringence twisted fiber was numerically examined. Nonlinear ellipse rotation effect has been taken into account. Nonlinear switching has been found for the balanced configuration with a 0.5/0.5 coupler. By appropriate choice of the fiber twist, birefringence, and optical fiber length, a variety of different characteristics of the interferometer can be achieved. Some of the configurations manifest polarization independent operation.
