Abstract

We report our recent study of quasi-phase-matched (QPM) second- and third-harmonic generation (SHG, THG) in a domain-inverted optical superlattice LiTaO/sub 3/ crystal. A generalized Fibonacci ferroelectric quasiperiodic optical superlattice (QPOS) was constructed using two building blocks, each composed of a pair of oppositely polarized domains. The arrangement of the two types of blocks follow the generalized Fibonacci sequence. The multiwavelength property of the SHG of the QPOS was confirmed experimentally. We found that SHG occurred at several fundamental wavelengths and changed its output color from blue to near infrared. The measured SHG and THG conversion efficiencies were 5-20% and 22%, respectively. The spectra of the SHG were used to determine the dispersion for extraordinary ray.
