Abstract

This paper reports the influence of lithium (Li) substitution on the third order non-linear optical (NLO) absorption in zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films. The optical nonlinearity is investigated employing the open-aperture z-scan technique at the off resonant wavelength of 532nm. The nonlinear optical absorption is found to be directly related to the incorporation mechanism of the substituent. Electrical and Photoluminescence (PL) emission characteristics confirm the defect-mediated mechanism of NLO absorption in ZnO-based thin films.
