Abstract

We consider the nonlinear optical (NLO) response of a one-dimensional conductor to a nonperturbative nonstationary electric field within the one-electron one-band tight-binding approximation in the absence of relaxation. A new effect of absence of induced polarization in an arbitrary electric field for an electron, localized initially on one site is found. A classification of harmonic generation spectra is provided. A plateau in the harmonic spectrum is found and ways of controlling the output spectrum with the external field are discussed. All the results within the model are exact.
