Abstract

Scaled equations are derived for the time evolution of a single whistler wave driven by a weak helical electron beam in the presence of a static magnetic field B0. These equations can be reduced to those already derived for an electrostatic wave interacting with a cold beam, provided that the perturbation of the perpendicular velocity of an electron to B0 during the interaction with the whistler wave is negligible.
