Abstract

AbstractIn order to derive plasma energy outflux from thermographic measurements an inverse heat conduction problem must be solved. A solution method for the time‐dependent three‐dimensional heat conduction equation is presented which improves an analytical Green's function solution by a numerical iteration method to include nonlinear effects. The measured temperature excursion of a graphite surface irradiated by laser heat flux pulses can be well described by the model calculations. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
