Abstract

This paper deals with the nonlinear frequency spectrum in nonlinear structural analysis. Iterative perturbation is presented as an effective method for extracting the nonlinear frequency spectrum. The iterative perturbation is based on matrix perturbation. The initial frequencies are found by subspace iteration. The subsequent frequency spectrum of nonlinear states, which is based upon the tangent stiffness of the structure, is calculated by the iterative perturbation method. Application of the method is illustrated by a numerical example. The results show that the iterative perturbation is very effective for extracting nonlinear frequency spectrum.
