Abstract

The application of the methods of nonlinear fracture mechanics to the analysis of the hybrid polymer composites and structural components is discussed in this paper. Both the theoretical and experimental approaches have been utilised for fracture analysis and damage tolerance estimation. The analysis is based on the combination of J-contour integral technique and methods of nonlinear fracture mechanics. The critical values J cr of J-contour integral were obtained from the experimental examinations of the notched specimens subjected to the tensile and bending loading. The prediction of the tolerable defect sizes has been produced for the helicopter blade made of hybrid composite materials.
