Abstract

Presents a review of current experimental progress on nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometry placing particular emphasis on the phenomenon of optical bistability. After a short theoretical introduction outlining physical principles and device uses the authors describe the early experiments on Na, ruby and Kerr media. The most recent experiments on the semiconductors InSb, GaAs and Te constitute the most promising possibilities for practical applications.
