Abstract
It has recently been demonstrated from the Klein-Gordon equation that energy shifts in atomic levels are proportional to effective mass terms resulting from laser-atom interactions. Herein, it is shown that quadratic and higher order effective mass terms occur in certain quantum electrodynamic corrections.
