Abstract

Nonlinear dynamics of optical Costas loop (OCL) has been studied in the presence of loop delay. Analytical predictions show that, when loop delay exceeds some critical value, the loop fials to lock to the input optical signal. For large value of loop delay, loop phase error can oscillate chaotically by generating chaotically phase modulated optical signal. Analytically, it is possible to predict the different values of delay and loop parameters, for which different nonlinear effects are observed. All the analytical results have been verified properly by solving the system equation with the help of numerical integration.
