Abstract

The nonlinear interaction between two colliding modulated upper-hybrid wave packets has been considered, taking into account their coupling with quasi-stationary density perturbations reinforced by the ponderomotive forces of the upper-hybrid waves. It is found that this interaction is governed by two coupled cubic Schrödinger equations. The normal mode analysis of the latter reveals that positive (negative) group dispersive colliding wave packets are modulationally unstable (stable).
