Abstract

Rationale: Indices of overall diet quality may provide a more holistic picture of population eating behaviours. However, such indices may not be directly proportional to health outcomes, and there is a lack of studies that have investigated these nonlinear associations. The aims of this study were, therefore, to develop a diet index and to examine its nonlinear associations with a wide range of health outcomes including the incidence of and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer as well as all-cause mortality using UK Biobank.
