Abstract

Current core design for Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors (LMFBR) consists of a honey comb array of subassembly ducts containing fuel elements. The subassembly duct is typically a long prismatic thin-walled shell with a hexagonal cross section. Consider such an elastic prismatic shell with a hexagonal cross section subjected to a hydrostatic pressure from inside. Due to the symmetry it is sufficient to consider only one of the six plates. For the present purposes it is considered that the strain components and the angles of rotation are negligible when compared with unity while still allowing for nonlinear character of deformation-the so-called von Karman theory.
