Abstract

Abstract In chapter 3, we discussed numerical methods for solving systems of linear algebraic equations. The algorithms we developed provide us with a basis for solving systems of nonlinear algebraic equations discussed in this chapter. We will see that, with a few exceptions, the solution of nonlinear equations must be found by iteration, where each iteration requires solving linear equations. Our main goal is to develop methods that ensure the convergence of the iterations for a reasonable initial guess.
