Abstract

Nonlinear Alfven waves, which in the infinitely conducting plasma are noncompressive and have a constant magnetic field strength (B2=const), propagate in a turbulent plasma. The latter is characterized by a big (but finite) electrical conductivity σeff due to micro-instabilities. The Alfven wave in such a medium is governed by the diffusion equation. It is shown that an initial periodic perturbation (withB2=const) while still being incompressive, decays due to dissipation.
