Abstract

In this communication, we present a theoretical investigation of second-order nonlinear optical diffraction by standing acoustic waves in a thin crystalline plate. A detailed analysis of the polarization state of the second-harmonic light diffracted by both bulk and surface acoustic waves is carried out. Numerical estimates of the relative intensities of the nonlinearly diffracted orders are made for an AlGaAs film deposited on a GaAs substrate.
