Abstract

Matrix elements of the nonleptonic decays of hyperons and ${\ensuremath{\Omega}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ are studied in a harmonic-oscillator model wherein the Pauli spinors are replaced by Dirac spinors and quark mass ($u$,$d$) is less than $\frac{1}{3}$ of the nucleon mass. For parity-violating decays our results show improvement over those of Donoghue, Golowich, Holstein, and Ponce, calculated in the MIT bag model. For other cases, our result are as good as those of other recent calculations.
