Abstract

This paper proposes a new car-following model considering the effects of full lateral gaps. a new car-following model is proposed to catch the impact from not only the preceding vehicles on two-sided lateral gaps, but also the leader vehicle lateral gaps to the following vehicle. Linear stability analysis of the proposed model can be performed using the small perturbation method to obtain stable region. Moreover, the results from critical curves of parameters obviously illustrate that the proposed model has the larger stable region compared to car-following model that considers the effects of two-sided lateral gaps.
