Abstract

Nonisothermal kinetic parameters of devitrification for a glass in the Li–Si–Al–O system were determined by differential thermal analysis. Using the Ozawa method, we determined the value of the Avrami exponent to be 1.83 ± 0.05. Consequently, in accordance with work by J. W. Christian, we suggest that a diffusion process kinetically controls the Li 2SiO 3 and virgilite concomitant crystallization growth mechanism. Furthermore, the values of apparent activation energy for crystallization, as determined by different analytical methods, ranged from 182 to 200 kJ/mol, with the same deviation (± 8 kJ/mol). These values are in a good agreement and reveal the propensity of this glass composition to crystallize easily.
