Abstract

Left ventricular (LV) performance can be evaluated noninvasively by determination of systolic time intervals including the preejection period (PEP) of the left ventricle and the ratio of the LV preejection period/LV ejection time (PEP/LVET). 1–5 To our knowledge, no new systolic time interval with a sufficient potential for predicting LV performance has been widely used clinically since the inception of the PEP and PEP/LVET. In this study we evaluated LV performance using a new systolic time interval obtained by continuous-wave Doppler echocardiography and electrocardiography. In addition, we compared the effectiveness of this new systolic time interval with that of the established time intervals for evaluating left ventricular performance.
