Abstract

Ultrasonic auseultation distal to an occluding cuff provides a rapid, simple, and accurate method of systolic blood pressure estimation in the experimental animal. This procedure is noninvasive and repeated determinations can be performed on the same animal. In the rat, excellent correlation is observed between direct intraarterial measurements of systolic blood pressure and indirect determination of systolic blood pressure by ultrasonic auscultation.
