Abstract

A novel control system has been developed, incorporating a disturbance compensator into a conventional noninteracting controller to improve disturbance suppression capability. The disturbance compensator is designed with H/sub /spl infin// control theory so that the disturbance is well suppressed without losing robust stability. The on-site adjustment of the controller is relatively easy because, without the compensator, the control system is the same as the conventional noninteracting control system. The new control was applied to tension and looper-angle control for hot strip finishing process. Through control simulations, it was demonstrated that both the tension and looper angle have much less variations.
