Abstract

We performed model calculations of the two-pulse photon echo decay (2PE) in amorphous solids at low temperatures in the frame of the theory of Geva and Skinner (J. Chem. Phys. 107 (1997) 7630). The nonexponential shape of the 2PE decay, predicted by this theory, makes the concept of T 2 non-unique. Thus, the measured temperature dependence of the line width depends on the definition of T 2. This problem was numerically analyzed. 2PE measurements for some amorphous systems have been performed and a strong nonexponential shape of the 2PE decay below 4 K was found.
