Abstract

Mössbauer effect at the nuclei 57Fe has been investigated in the garnet Y 0.3Ca 2.7Fe 3.65V 1.35O 12. In the octahedral sublattice some non-equivalent sites of Fe 3+ ions were observed. This non-equivalency was shown to result from a different number of Fe 3+ ions in the nearest-neigbour tetrahedral sites. Effective magnetic fields at the Fe 3+ nuclei in non-equivalent a-sites have different values and different temperature dependences. It has been concluded that at a given temperature (far from 0° K) the value of H eff depends on the number of magnetic neighbours in the nearest tetrahedral environment of the Fe 3+ ions.
