Abstract

Porous CuO electrodes have been fabricated using a low cost hydrothermal synthesis. Enzyme-less glucose detection ability of such porous electrodes has been optimized for different growth conditions. The maximum sensitivity of the electrode has been found to be ∼3072 μAmM−1 cm-2, in the linear detection range of 5μM to 0.225 mM and detection limit of ∼0.41 μM. Such CuO based porous electrodes showed ultrafast response time (∼0.8 s) and excellent sensitivity towards glucose detection. The glucose sensing experiments in human saliva samples using porous CuO electrodes have been demonstrated in this study. A high sensitivity of ∼2299 μAmM−1 cm-2 was obtained, for glucose sensing in human saliva samples. This study shows the potential application of porous CuO as electrode materials for cost effective, enzyme-less and non-invasive glucose sensors for bio-medical devices.
