Abstract

We describe a simple method for preparing the hybrid material of Pt nanoparticles (NPs) supported on carbon-coated SnO2 nanospheres (Pt–SnO2@C). The as-prepared Pt–SnO2@C nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The presence of carbon-coated SnO2 nanospheres (SnO2@C) remarkably improves the electrocatalytic activity of Pt NPs towards hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) oxidation. The Pt–SnO2@C nanocomposite modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode exhibited enhanced amperometric response to H2O2, with detection limit of 0.1μM and sensitivity of 241.1μAmM−1cm−2.
