Abstract

An analysis is presented of a model of a nondegenerate parallel-pumped magnetoelastic wave amplifier. The instability involves two waves propagating in opposite directions and in contrast to previous analysis of lossless parametric systems, the unequal loss of the two waves leads to exponential growth. The amplifier gain is evaluated for the case that the magnetoelastic waves are near the crossover of the uncoupled spin and elastic wave spectra. The spin wave losses away from the crossover are evaluated for arbitrary angles of propagation with respect to the dc saturating field. Amplifier performance characteristics are evaluated for several ferrimagnets.
