Abstract

It is postulated that the angular correlation distributions of the coplanar and non-coplanar quasi-free proton scattering are controlled by the momentum distribution of the nuclear protons for medium weight nuclei. This assumption differs from that of Jacob and Maris, who suggested that the angular distribution would show a diffraction pattern. The incoming and outgoing protons are represented by waves distorted in a square well potential. It is shown that the two angular correlation distributions are very similar for the same magnitude of momentum transfer. It is also shown that if the distorting potential is real, the angular correlation distributions do not depend on the nuclear protons which have non-zero magnetic quantum number.
