Abstract

ABSTRACT.We report a case of nonconvulsive status epilepticus presenting as recurring episodes of altered mental status before and after bone marrow transplantation for multiple myeloma. Early recognition of nonconvulsive status epilepticus as a cause of altered mental status is important, because prompt treatment with antiepileptic medications may improve neurologic outcome. EEG is the essential diagnostic test in the evaluation of the disturbance of the level of consciousness in patients undergoing the transplantation procedure.
