Abstract
Measurement of the internal dimensions of high precision waveguides and transmission lines raises the problem of avoiding the surface damage that can be caused by contact measuring instruments. A solution is to use noncontacting air gauges supported clear of the tube surfaces by externally pressurized air bearings. Factors affecting the combination of air gauges with air bearings are discussed and constructional details of gauges currently in use are given.
