Abstract

Symbolically, white tigers represent the home and feminine forces. This metaphor is usefully applied to the problem of nonconsensual insemination in the United States. Legislation penalizing sexual assault only directly criminalizes nonconsensual insemination in a minority of districts (e.g., North Carolina). Some jurisdictions have demonstrated the state’s interest in preventing, deterring, and punishing nonconsensual insemination. For example, impregnation resulting from rape is an aggravated sexual battery in Wisconsin. Yet, many codes are silent, which may fail to deter some sexual deviants. A few codes in each state indirectly address nonconsensual insemination by criminalizing HIV and other disease transmission. The white tiger population in the United States is dwindling. Intermediate size zoos have maintained comfortable exhibits for years; and yet, many of these beautiful animals have been prohibited from having families due to gravitas, space, and cost. Although some thrive in isolation, others are well cared-for by companions and mates. However, rather than foster pairing, many white tigers are nonconsensually masturbated and inseminated. These activities appear not to be substantially similar to human rape, although philosophical analogies are evident. A Species Survival Plan (SSP) for generic and pure breed white tigers should require a percentage of conservation establishments to care for pairs of white tigers, including two males or females, depending on the populations’ need.
