Abstract

Noncollinear folded geometries for far infrared generation by difference-frequency mixing of CO 2 lasers are analyzed, and are shown theoretically to provide orders of magnitude increase in the far infrared output compared with the simple noncollinear geometry used previously. The basic principle of the folded geometry has been verified experimentally.
