Abstract

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is one cause of extrahepaticportal venous obstruction characterized by the obliterationof the portal vein supply leading to portal hypertension.Acute or chronic PVTs are successive stages of the same dis-ease. In the absence of recanalization, porto-portal collater-als develop, leading to a portal cavernoma. Although theyshare similar causes, the clinical presentation and manage-ment differs.
