Abstract
A new bulky fluorinated anion based ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis (nonafluorobutane-1-sulfonyl imidate) (Im1, 3BNFSI), was synthesized through ion exchange condensation process and employed for electrolyte preparation. Nonaqueous liquid electrolytes were prepared using synthesized ionic liquid: lithium bis (nonafluorobutane-1-sulfonyl imidate) salt, propylene carbonate, and dimethoxy ethane solvents by mechanical agitation; and considered for applications in lithium ion batteries. Maximum electrical conductivity 2.21 mS.cm−1 and wide electrochemical stability window (4.3 V) were achieved for the prepared electrolytes using different electrochemical techniques. The highest specific capacity (132.75 mA h.g−1) was achieved for LiFePO4/ionic liquid electrolytes/Li coin cell, suggesting them as an auspicious candidate for high performance lithium ion batteries.
