Abstract

This paper introduces the non-prismatic model for solving the buckling problem of eccentric loaded pined ends column with single transverse crack. The Euler's governing differential equation of column buckling was used. Rice and Levy's rotational spring model was inserted to model the transverse crack effect. The relation between relative crack length and non-prismatic model depths ratio for columns with different cross sections and different length was obtained. Quartic equation was derived, using the fitting technique, to represent the relation between relative crack length and the non-prismatic model depths ratio. The transverse deflections from the proposed model and from the softening rotational model were compared and gave good agreement.
