Abstract

A version of the non-perturbative quantum theory of the post-collisioninteraction (PCI) effect is proposed. Using as an example the calculation of thecross section for absorption of a photon by the 1s shell of a 10Neatom, an analytical estimation of the integral electrostatic interaction is carriedout under the plane-wave approximation for the wavefunctions of virtualphotoelectrons and Auger electrons with a continuous spectrum. The conclusionreached is that the PCI effect should not have ‘visible’ manifestations in thetheoretically derived spectra of ionizations of deep shells of light atoms by x-rayphotons.
