Abstract

Both the steady flow of an infinite mass of elastico-viscous liquid and the generation of this steady state are considered, in the case when an infinite disc is impulsively given a constant angular velocity. It is found that this flow situation, unlike other rotational flows, does not exhibit marked departures from the steady Newtonian velocity profile, a conclusion which contradicts previously published results. During the time the steady state is being generated, however, certain transient elastic effects are evident.
