Abstract

Introduction: Non-menstrual toxic shock syndrome (TSS) has a higher mortality than menstrual toxic shock syndrome, and SEB is a well recognised causative superantigen. Although IVIG is advocated by some as a treatment for TSS, recent UK guidelines do not mention TSS as an indication for use. This study set out to investigate the role of SEB in non-menstrual staphylococcal TSS and the potential treatment value of IVIG.
