Abstract

We propose a new all-optical atom trap, which is based on sub-Doppler rectified dipole forces in a superposition of two 3D optical lattices with different frequencies. In a semiclassical model, a calculation of the rectified force field and corresponding Monte-Carlo simulations show that the trap can combine the microscopic structure of an optical lattice with macroscopic confinement properties similar to a standard magneto-optical trap. Possible applications of such a trap are discussed.
