Abstract

Shock experiments on Lead-Calcium alloy have been performed in order to generate spalling under Taylor's wave loading. The influence of Pb 3 Ca precipitates, created by metallurgical transformations at grain boundaries, was investigated with experiments on targets with ageing from 6 to 28 months. Shock generation was realized by plate impact for high velocities experiments. A first analysis of metallurgical observations of nucleation sites is presented in this article with the comparison between experimental velocities measurement (VISAR and DLI) and numerical ones obtains using a Johnson's criterion to describe nucleation and growth of damage.
