Abstract

The dispersion equation for a helicon-phonon interaction has been derived for the case when non-local effects are significant. Numerical studies have been carried out for potassium. The nature of the variation of the damping of the four modes with the magnetic field strength has been studied. The results confirm that in the interaction region, mode conversion takes place and the waves are of a hybrid nature.
