Abstract

The asymmetric setback is one of the major reasons for damages in a multi-storey building. The past earthquake has shown that building with Asymmetric Setback causes more seismic force and leads to structural failure. In the present study, the extended N2 method is an improved method of the N2 method of the non-linear static analysis method. The extended N2 method is one of the important methods to evaluate the seismic performance of asymmetric setback building when compared to the equivalent static analysis method of a regular building. This method is designed for G + 7 RC framed structure with an asymmetric setback in zone III. The structure analysis was done in the form of an extended N2 method by using a correction factor that is applied to the N2 method. The effects of Asymmetric Setback on the building are assessed in terms of a seismic parameter such as displacement and storey drift was obtained. A similar structure is analysed via the time history analysis method. The results accompanied by the Extended N2 method were compared with the time history analysis method. The analysis of the structure was made by using SAP 2000. This result showed that the displacement and storey drift is more in the pushover analysis method due to the soil interaction effect when compared to another method.
