Abstract

Non-linear normal modes of vibration for a hinged–hinged beam with fixed ends are evaluated considering both the continuous system and finite-element models. With regard to the latter ones, two alternative approaches are used, namely the invariant manifold technique and the method of multiple scales. Results from each one of the mathematical models are compared with data available in the literature.
