Abstract

Owing to the difficulty for the finite element analyst to effectively employ the refined analysis model, the accurate finite element analysis is often slow. Thus, it is useful to introduce an analysis procedure to improve the results obtained from a preliminary finite element solution. Such a procedure is presented in this paper. The errors existing in the original finite element solution can be grouped into two categories. One can have longer period errors while the other can have shorter period errors. Multiplicative and additive correction procedures are introduced to iteratively eliminate the errors. The multiplicative and additive correction procedures are implemented using multi-level solution techniques. This method can be used to solve generic scientific and engineering problems.
