Abstract

This paper presents an analytical expression for seismic active earth pressure on the back of a retaining wall supporting c–ϕ backfill using Rayleigh waves. Analysis is done considering non-linear failure surface and using horizontal slice method in which limit equilibrium principle is used. The results as obtained on the basis of analysis are presented in tabular form. Parametric studies has been carried out with the consideration of wall inclination angle (α), soil friction angle (ϕ), wall friction angle (δ), horizontal and vertical seismic acceleration coefficients (kh and kv) and results are shown in both tabular and graphical form.
