Abstract
The 347 nm pulsed laser photolysis of anthracene in cyclohexane and methanol gives rise to non-linear effects which are characterized by increased absorption with increasing laser intensity. A kinetic model which incorporates biphotonic ionization via the relaxed lowest excited singlet state accounts not only for the non-linear absorption behavior, but also for the variation of triplet yields with intensity and consequences of the presence of oxygen.
