Abstract

We explore the possibility of controlling the pattern formation in a purely diffusive binary mixture described by a van der Waals equation of state in non-isothermal situations. Simulations are conducted with a previously formulated thermodynamically consistent smoothed particle hydrodynamics model for a phase separating mixture. We focus on the effect of the overall concentration of species in the patterns caused by a point-like sink of energy.
